Wellness Resource Specialist

The Wellness Resource Specialist will serve as a senior leader to support AAC’s commitment to the Health and Wellness of its student community. The range of services will include prevention, intervention, psychoeducation, crisis management, and health promotion for AAC students, consultation to faculty, staff, and organizations within the campus community as well as assessing and analyzing clinical signs and symptoms and diagnosing actual/potential health problems.

The Wellness Resource Specialist will serve as a senior leader to support AAC’s commitment to the Health and Wellness of its student community. The range of services will include prevention, intervention, psychoeducation, crisis management, and health promotion for AAC students, consultation to faculty, staff, and organizations within the campus community as well as assessing and analyzing clinical signs and symptoms and diagnosing actual/potential health problems.
Responsibilities
- Provide visionary and strategic leadership for a holistic, multidisciplinary approach to student wellness.
- Provide training for the staff and faculty on appropriate actions in the event of a student in crisis.
- Organize and lead an ongoing strategic planning and assessment process for onsite/telehealth counseling and health services.
- Organize and distribute information on community resources available to students for situations such as food insecurity, self-harm, shelter insecurity, among others.
- Develop and administer policies and protocols that govern mental health and behavioral health care that mitigate risk to students, staff, faculty, and the AAC.
- Coordinate the emergency and crisis response procedures for the college.
- Hold the confidential information received from students in strict confidence and exercise reasonable care to prevent disclosure.
- Coordinate consultation, education, and outreach services to faculty, staff, and students on developments, mental health and wellness, and harm-reduction issues.
- Establish and maintain close collaborations with campus partners and liaise with off-campus medical and mental health providers.
- Participate in AAC’s Early Alert and Student Support Request interventions by providing outreach to students with mental health, financial, food or housing insecurity issues.
- Along with the AAC Nurse, evaluate the health-related needs of the AAC community and respond to those needs.
- Oversee the mental health aspect of the Student Health Insurance Program.
- Manage operational budgets. Manage contracts for the internship programs.
- Serve on the Student Affairs team, working closely with members of Student Affairs and other departments to best serve our students’ mental and behavioral health needs.
- Other duties assigned by the Dean of Students.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Master’s in counseling or LISW
- At least a bachelor’s degree in social work or relevant field.
- Demonstrated supervisory and leadership skills within a diverse environment.
- Strong fiscal management/budget skills.
- Well-developed team management skills, coalition building, and operation in interdisciplinary environments.
- Knowledge of integrated care and ability to lead effectively within an integrated model.
- Excellent public speaking, interpersonal, communication, and critical thinking skills, including the ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in counseling or other relevant field
- Understanding of and direct experience in a college or university setting.
Physical Requirements
- Primarily sedentary work that could involve sitting for long periods of time. The ability to walk, run, bend, stretch, lift 25 pounds and maneuver 150 pounds. Must be able to communicate effectively with others to exchange information, type with and see a computer screen and speak and hear on a telephone. There are no known adverse environmental conditions expected.
- The work environment would be typical of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The ability to work with students in crisis is necessary.
