Volunteer Coordinator
Lighthouse is seeking an enthusiastic, detail-oriented self-starter to become its next Volunteer Coordinator. The Volunteer Coordinator oversees all activities related to volunteers and in-kind donations for the organization, which serves over 4,000 young people and their families each year. The Volunteer Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring Lighthouse’s programs have the volunteer and material resources they need to best serve their clients. This is a full-time position with competitive salary and benefits.
The Volunteer Coordinator is a member of Lighthouse’s Development Team, which is responsible for driving growth of donated revenue through a comprehensive fundraising program that meets and exceeds annual and long-term financial goals. This position works closely with members of the Development Team in a supportive environment dedicated to advancing the organization’s mission: to empower young people and families to succeed through a continuum of care that promotes healing and growth.
Essential Functions:
- Determines the volunteer needs of Lighthouse’s programs, events, and activities.
- Actively recruits volunteers and responds to all inquiries regarding volunteer opportunities.
- Conducts a thorough volunteer intake and onboarding process and ensures the best match between the interests of the volunteer and the needs of the organization.
- Provides training for volunteers and employees to work effectively and appropriately with one another.
- Maintains current and accurate volunteer records within the CRM and regularly provides reports on key metrics.
- Coordinates all in-kind donations, including actively soliciting needed items, managing the warehouse inventory and space, and distributing items to programs.
- Leads the planning and implementation of Lighthouse’s annual Happy Holidays Gift Drive.
- Coordinates the efforts of the Lighthouse Young Professionals Committee and actively engages its members.
- Promotes and represents the agency at corporate and community events, volunteer fairs, outreach programs, meetings, and other gatherings and creates and prepares presentations as needed or requested.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline. Coursework or degree in non-profit management preferred.
- At least one year of professional work experience.
- Professional training or certification in volunteer coordination preferred.
- Proven volunteer recruitment and/or supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills sufficient to inspire and work effectively with diverse groups of people.
- Strong oral and written communications skills, which include the ability to write and speak persuasively.
- Excellent project management skills with proven ability to strategize, prioritize, and organize to meet goals and deadlines.
- Ability to exercise sound judgement and professional discretion.
- Demonstrated proficiency with technology, including database entry and all Microsoft Office products (or comparable systems). Experience with donor software such as Raiser's Edge preferred.
