JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a detail-oriented and dependable entry level Accountant to join our team in a newly created full-time role. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for managing specified day-to-day financial transactions for our 176-year-old non-profit. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of basic accounting principles and excellent organizational skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Accounts Payable: Review and manage invoice approvals, reconcile vendor statements, enter invoices into the accounting system and assist with payments.
  • Vendor Management: Responsible for the tracking and collection of W-9’s for year-end tax filings; Develop thorough understanding of key vendors and contracts and/or terms. Collaborate with corporate stakeholders during the annual vendor audit.
  • Financial Record Maintenance: Organize and maintain both digital and physical financial records, ensuring they are accessible and compliant with legal requirements. Audit Support: Provide documentation and reports to assist with internal and external audits.
  • Tax Compliance: Assist in the preparation of tax filings (sales tax, 1099 forms, gaming reports, etc.) and ensure adherence to local, state, and federal tax regulations.
  • Other duties: Provide support with budgeting, financial analysis, HR support and other projects and tasks as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to identify discrepancies.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Capability to work under pressure of tight deadlines
  • Solid communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work collaboratively with team members.
  • Must handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Must be quick learner and self-motivated
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance

In addition, this person must promote and support the principles of Trauma Informed Care (TIC) throughout the agency.
