At Cincinnati’s Ronald McDonald House, we have a culture of gratitude, fun, collaboration and compassion. The Social Worker must be exceptionally talented, driven, organized and – most importantly – passionate about people and helping others succeed! The Social Worker will provide supportive services to families being served by RMHC Cincinnati. The Social Worker will collaborate with the Guest Services team and hospital staff to best support families during their stay. The Social Worker will help identify families’ unmet needs and will bridge the gap between families and the resources they need.  This will improve their overall wellbeing by connecting families to organizations that provide other needed services during their time in Cincinnati as well services as they transition back home. The social worker program supports our families across a broader section of the continuum of care.

Reports to:

Guest Services Director

 

Job Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Social Work. Must have either an LSW or LISW.
  • At least one year of experience working in an environment that centers on children and family experiences.
  • Mission focused
  • Must be able to practice confidentiality
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office suite products
  • High attention to detail
  • Solid written and verbal skills
  • Loves a challenge and is a self-starter

Key Responsibilities:

  • Give families the opportunity to be heard by listening to their needs and uncovering any unmet needs.
  • Connect with new long-term families after they arrive to the House through Welcome Meetings. Build relationships, offer support, and connect to resources as needed. Establish ongoing meetings with those families in need of social services.
  • Assist Guest Services Team in ensuring families understand and are abiding by House guidelines by providing follow-up conversations. When possible, initiate actions to address underlying sources of stress or behavior that may violate House guidelines.  
  • Collaborate with Programs Team to create and facilitate structured activities and support groups.
  • Communicate with hospital social workers on an ongoing basis to receive updates on patient status and family needs. Collaborate with Guest Services Leads to monitor family eligibility and support transition home.
  • Fully understand the resources available at Cincinnati Children’s in order to best leverage their existing services to support RMH families.
  • As needed, research other organizations that can provide assistance to families here in Cincinnati and after transition back home. Connect families to these organizations throughout their stay to improve their experience in Cincinnati and to better prepare them to transition back home.  
  • Assist in supporting families after a loss of life. Assist in communicating loss of life to the Team.

 

Work Environment:
This job operates in a communal residential setting.

The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

This is a non-exempt full-time position with benefits.
