Senior Program Officer - Healthcare Portfolio
The Farmer Family Foundation seeks a Senior Program Officer based in Cincinnati, Ohio, due to growth. The Senior Program Officer serves a vital role in the organization's structure and works in cooperation with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to facilitate the Foundation's philanthropic vision and community goals. S/he will report to the Executive Director and assist in the process of monitoring, evaluating, and reporting on the Foundation’s healthcare portfolio of grants.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the Executive Director in managing assigned aspects of grantmaking for the Foundation, as guided by Board vision and policy. This includes working with current and prospective grantees, preview of proposals, conducting due diligence, preparing committee and board materials, responding to requests for grant applications, and monitoring current grants.
- Provide oversight of healthcare portfolio which includes research, hospitals and community health initiatives.
- Monitor funded grant programs’ progress toward the achievement of strategic goals by ensuring projects meet established timelines and milestones, and work with research investigators to troubleshoot when issues arise.
- Serve as subject matter expert in supporting the management of the healthcare portfolio of grants
- Conduct research to proactively identify potential future investment opportunities.
- Oversee grant documentation together with legal counsel to ensure gift agreements properly document grant objectives.
- Manage strategic and/or collaborative grantmaking initiatives, as assigned.
- Provide maintenance of active grants; report review, analysis and feedback.
- Represent the Foundation at site-visits, meetings, symposia, or programs in community, as appropriate.
- Work with Executive Director to develop and oversee evaluation strategies for program area and grants necessary to advance the Foundation’s vision, policy and strategic goals.
- Stay abreast of relevant healthcare and related philanthropic issues, research, and trends.
- Other projects and assignments as requested by the Foundation’s Board or Executive Director.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university required. Completion of an advanced science or medical degree (PhD or MD) is valued.
- A minimum of 7 years’ professional experience in a related for-profit or non-profit environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the non-profit sector, preferably with experience in biomedical or healthcare research sector. Knowledge of immunology, clinical research, drug development, cell biology, molecular biology, genetics, or bioinformatics is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills. Proven ability to work as a team player with diverse groups of people.
- Strong writing, research and analytical skills.
- Organized self-starter who can multi-task and requires minimal supervision.
- Skillful presenter, communicator and meeting facilitator.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; knowledge of database management preferred.
- Ability to exercise discretion and good judgement when working with confidential information.
- Ability and willingness to travel on an occasional basis.
