Job Summary and Key Relationships
The Senior Philanthropic Advisor (SPA) plays a significant leadership role in developing and carrying out the Greater Cincinnati Foundation’s (GCF) plans and strategies for engaging donors through superior relationship management. This includes collaboration to capture and share the Foundation’s community knowledge and strategic priorities for the direct benefit of donors seeking to increase the impact of their giving through partnership with GCF.

The SPA works with a strategic emphasis on engaging donors in charitable and planned giving strategies and tools. This position is classified as Exempt, Salaried. The SPA works under the direct leadership of the Director, Donor Services as part of the larger Philanthropic Partnerships group.

The SPA works collaboratively with the Donor Services and other Philanthropic Partnerships staff, Community Strategies staff, Marketing staff, and GCF committee volunteers to enhance relationships with prospects and current and future donors.

Key Responsibilities:

Planning, Organization and Management (5%)
• Participate in the creation of annual team plans, goals and strategies to engage donors and prospects to increase new and endowed assets
• Develop a comprehensive planned giving marketing, engagement and stewardship strategy

Relationship Management and Donor Services (60%)
• Take primary and proactive responsibility for developing, cultivating, and sustaining relationships with donors, prospects and professional advisors using the moves management process. Offer charitable solutions and assist them in meeting their charitable goals and needs by providing information about GCF’s services, community insights and charitable investment opportunities, benefits of current and planned gifts, etc. Provide exemplary customer service.
• Actively participate in and support GCF’s Generous Together efforts, including donor co-investments, impact investments, and volunteer opportunities. Working in close collaboration with the Community Strategies Group and the Senior Director, Donor Services, develop mechanisms for sharing the Foundation’s community knowledge to donors, both systematically and upon request.
• Participate in the design and delivery of the new-donor experience; proactively engage with donors.
• Solicit support for the Foundation’s annual fund; raise flexible and legacy dollars for the Foundation’s grantmaking initiatives.

Project Leadership (30%)
• Lead efforts to deepen relationships with GCF’s planned gift society members, individually and through marketing and events with a focus on expanding the membership of the society. Serve as an active member of the Greater Cincinnati Planned Giving Council.
• Lead cross-departmental teams to convene and engage donors and prospects in collective or other innovative giving strategies; i.e. Giving Circles, A Special Gift, etc.
• In close collaboration with organizational leadership, drive strategic prospecting efforts toward new fund holder acquisition.

Administrative (5%)
• Compile key performance indicators for respective area of responsibility
• Represent the Foundation at special events, at times in the evening
• Maintain the integrity of a portfolio of records and files related to constituents and funds, adhering to organizational data, process and retention standards.
• Serve as backup to other relationship managers. Serve as a resource to the Philanthropic Partnerships group.
• Earn the Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP)® designation from the American College, if not already credentialed.
• Other assignments and special projects as assigned by the Director, Donor Services, Senior Director, Donor Services, and/or Chief Philanthropy Officer.

Qualifications
• Minimum education and experience: Bachelor’s degree and at least five years’ experience in the asset development field, including substantial work and success in soliciting major gifts and promoting planned gifts. Preference for candidates with knowledge of or experience with community foundations
• Preferred education: Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy, Certified Fund Raising Executive and/or master’s degree in accounting, business, finance or law combined with continuing education in fundraising strategies appropriate to community foundations
• Comfortable working closely with high net worth and/or influential individuals; proven ability to ensure confidentiality and discretion with all personal contacts and communications
• Knowledge, experience and interpersonal skills necessary to earn the role of trusted advisor
• Strong customer service orientation
• Energetic, personable, sensitive and mature interpersonal style, able to project confidence to donors; able to work well with a wide range of personalities
• Sense of humor, creativity and an appreciation of the role of philanthropy in building community
• Highly motivated, action-oriented self-starter with strong organizational skills and follow through, especially planning and coordination. Ability to work under tight deadlines and to manage workload independently. Willing to adjust to multiple demands.
• Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills, including public speaking experience
• Proven ability to work as a team player with diverse groups of people
• Strong analytic, problem-solving and planning skills
• Excellent time and task management skills as evidenced by a proven ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently and effectively
• Demonstrated experience with database management and office productivity software including Microsoft Office
• The SPA must have a valid driver’s license, insurance coverage and a car (or regular access to a car).

Pay Range: $70,000-$77,000

Wages are negotiable within the competitive salary range set by GCF. The ranges have been established based on organization, industry and national standards. Desired salary expectations will be discussed during the interview process.
