The Legal Aid Society of Greater Cincinnati is accepting applications for an Equal Justice Works/Legal Services Corporation Rural Summer Law Clerk Fellowship. Applicants should have completed their second year of law school before the summer of 2023.
The Legal Aid Society and its affiliate, Legal Aid Society of Southwest Ohio, LLC, serves Brown, Butler, Clermont, Clinton, Hamilton, Highland, and Warren Counties in Southwest Ohio. We have two offices (downtown Cincinnati and Hamilton, Ohio) and a total staff of 96, including 46 attorneys and 18 paralegals. Our attorneys represent individual clients in civil legal matters in the areas of Children & Education, Family & Immigration, Housing & Consumer, and Income, Work & Health and assist community organizations and client groups.
The Rural Summer Fellow will work with Legal Aid’s Housing/Consumer team to assist homeowners in five counties who are at risk of foreclosure. The Fellow will help communicate the availability of legal services and mortgage assistance funds to potential clients and community organizations, meet with clients, assist with current cases and communications with lenders, perform legal research and provide other assistance to Legal Aid attorneys in their cases. In addition, all summer law clerks attend regular discussions on public interest law topics with their supervisors and other attorneys.
Applicants should have a strong academic record, an interest in public interest law, good organizational and communication skills and reliable auto transportation. This Fellowship term is 10 weeks and carries a stipend of $7,000 plus reimbursement for work related travel expenses.
