ADC Mission & Vision

Mission: ADC directs the revitalization of Avondale by developing housing, real estate, and economic initiatives while working collaboratively with residents and partners to address priorities that promote the well-being of Avondale residents as recommended in the Quality-of-Life Plan.

Vision: Avondale is a culturally rich community of choice where residents, businesses and partners are empowered to live healthy and thriving lives.

MAJOR DUTIES include but are not limited to:

  1. Supporting the implementation of the Avondale Comprehensive Quality of Life Neighborhood and Avondale Development Corporation strategic plan, including but not limited to coordinating working groups; conceptualizing innovative approaches and developing projects in line with strategy objectives; conducting research and analyzing data; and monitoring outcomes from the implementation process.
  • Providing information to and engage residents, community leaders and stakeholders on the implementation of the Quality-of-Life plan goals and action steps
  • Interviewing residents, community leaders and stakeholders and assembling information to determine strategies to encourage participation in and support for the community and strategic plan.
  • Assist in connecting residents to community services and resources, such as but not limited to housing and housing programs, education, economic and business development, workforce development, food and clothing resources, healthcare services and specialized assistance for seniors or individuals with disabilities.
  • Helping to plan and conduct dedicated events, services, and programs, such as health education (including mental health and, drug prevention programs, social justice, public safety, and crime prevention
  • Supporting the Project Manager in developing new program concepts and funding applications for grants that implement social and economic development priorities.
  • Coordinating external communication with social and economic development stakeholders.
  • Assisting department leadership and board with other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES include but are not limited to:

  • Knowledge of economic and social development principles, practices, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of area social and economic resources and services.
  • Ability to manage grant related records, information, and follow-up.
  • Ability to be a creative, independent thinker.
  • Must possess the ability to multitask and manage multiple and simultaneous priorities while managing time and resources in an efficient manner.
  • Ability to be tactful and courteous and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of individuals including elected officials, governmental agency representatives, stakeholders, residents, and community leaders.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in public administration, political science, business, economics, urban and regional planning, or related field and 3 to 5 years’ experience in economic development, urban and regional planning, community development, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
