Job Summary

Join a community that cares! Jewish Family Service of the Cincinnati Area has been caring for individuals and families in the region for over 80 years through a range of social services. The Program Assistant provides operational assistance to the overall functioning of the JFS Heldman Family Food Pantry, which assists individuals and families who are food insecure. This position works in conjunction with the JFS Food Pantry Manager to provide exceptional customer service and keep operations running effectively and efficiently. The Program Assistant will collaborate with JFS care managers, congregations, and volunteers to serve our clients through both in-person shopping and home deliveries. 

Job Description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 Operations

  • Shop for food, personal care and household items through retailers and hunger relief organizations; utilize online shopping when possible.
  • Stock shelves and organize existing inventory.
  • Pack groceries for clients who receive home delivery; bundle fresh and frozen items on the day of delivery for volunteers and care managers.
  • Confirm grocery deliveries with clients on a monthly basis.
  • Deliver groceries to clients, as needed.
  • Prepare paperwork needed for monthly deliveries, including grocery lists and labels.
  • Monitor inventory and order program supplies on an ongoing basis.
  • Assist with documentation for tracking and reporting of expenses.

 Volunteer Services

  • Oversee scheduling of volunteer shifts.
  • Greet and work with volunteers during their monthly shifts.
  • Assist with special events held throughout the year including drives for donated products as well as the annual “Passover Delivery” event.

 POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Able to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers and community members.
  • Able to communicate clearly through oral and written means.
  • Valid driver’s license, plus appropriate automobile insurance as determined by our liability insurance company.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Knowledge of Jewish community and kashrut is helpful.
  • Russian or Spanish language is also helpful.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • This position requires box lifting, shelf-stocking, walking, standing, and sitting.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to bend, lift, and carry.
  • Full range of motion over the head.
  • Able to walk up and down stairs.
  • Able to stand and or sit for long periods of time.
  • Ability to work in a warehouse type environment.
  • Occasional evening and/or weekend hours as needed.
  • Position requires the use of a JFS multi-passenger van.
