Job Summary
The Scripps Howard Foundation is seeking a Philanthropy Manager. This person helps develop and execute creative and impactful consumer-facing philanthropic campaigns for a portfolio of Scripps markets. They will lead fundraising initiatives that support the Foundation’s strategic priorities such as the “If You Give a Child a Book…” childhood literacy campaign and community impact campaigns. This is a hybrid position located in Cincinnati, OH.
Job Description
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Manage a portfolio of Scripps stations to ensure Foundation programs are strategically executed to maximize community impact and station goals.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with Scripps stations.
- Identify fundraising strategies and collaborative opportunities to carry out the Foundation’s mission and advance station goals.
- Advise, train, guide and support stations to successfully execute Community Impact and Disaster Relief campaigns.
- Implement outcomes/data tracking for community giving.
- Execute employee fundraising strategies for the “If You Give a Child a Book…” campaign and assist with engaging local audiences in the external campaign.
- Facilitate book distributions in partnership with Scholastic Book Fairs.
- Implement, manage and evaluate innovative and existing fundraising strategies that use digital and social platforms to promote annual gifts.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with Scripps stations including assisting stations with developing relationships with donors and prospects.
- In partnership with the Philanthropy Team, create and maintain a master calendar of campaigns, donor communications and stewardship efforts.
- Develop and educate colleagues on “best practices” for digital fundraising across multiple platforms.
- Design and implement targeted solicitation campaigns around Giving Tuesday, National Reading Day and other “giving” holidays in support of the Foundation’s mission and mission of our stations.
- Serve as expert in relation to services provided, future needs and abilities for donor software programs.
- Assist in preparation and oversight of the budget related to community giving programs.
- Assist with planning and materials for Board meetings.
- Serve as an expert in grantmaking by staying current with trends and best practices.
- Provide advice and counsel to stations, networks, corporate contributions committee and others related to grantmaking.
- As appropriate or needed, manage grantmaking processes and relationships, such as timelines and notifications, applicant questions and site visits when appropriate/feasible, application review and selection process, recipient notification/agreement/payment, etc.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- 3-5 years’ experience in nonprofit fundraising/development
WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
- Proven success in building fundraising campaigns and working collaboratively.
- Driven by philanthropic work and dedicated to maximizing community impact.
- Able to anticipate needs and resolve problems in a timely manner.
- Strategic thinker who is comfortable building relationships inside and outside of the Foundation and company.
- Self-motivated and organized.
- Experience with fundraising/donor management software.
- Prioritize innovation through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts. with colleagues and attending training and/or courses related to digital fundraising.
- Facilitate a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
- 10% travel required.
- Scripps offers a hybrid working option for this position.
