Job Summary

The Scripps Howard Foundation is seeking a Philanthropic Development Manager.  Identify and implement strategies to continuously increase dollars raised for the “If You Give a Child a Book…” Campaign, which is the cornerstone, national program within the Scripps Howard Fund’s childhood literacy pillar, with the goal of distributing ten new, age appropriate and culturally relevant books each year to at-risk children in Title 1 schools. Assist in advancing fundraising results for “Community Impact Campaigns,” place-based campaigns in partnership with Scripps television stations and national networks to raise awareness and funds for local causes and initiatives. This hands-on position works collaboratively with the team at the Fund and extensive cross-functional teams at all levels within The E.W. Scripps Company.  This is a hybrid position located in Cincinnati, OH.

Job Description

WHAT YOU'LL DO: 

“If You Give a Child a Book…” Campaign

  • Serve as the primary project owner for the annual “If You Give a Child a Book…” fundraising campaign with the goal of continuously growing financial support and employee participation.
  • Recruit and lead a cross-functional team of Fund, corporate, station and network staff to plan, design, promote and execute all aspects of the annual “If You Give a Child a Book…” fundraising campaign, such as:
    • consumer research
    • testing and optimization
    • digital promotions
    • campaign graphics and toolkit
    • employee giving across the company
    • external sponsorships
    • audience donations
    • partnerships
  • Coordinate and recruit book campaign leaders across Scripps local stations and network of national brands
  • Coordinate leadership giving campaign with Scripps leaders across the company
  • Oversee the employee campaign at the Scripps Corporate Office, including:
    • Recruit book campaign leaders
    • Coordinate incentive prizes for donors
    • Assist in the planning and coordination of digital employee engagement events
  • Lead all aspects of book campaign trainings for fundraising
  • In coordination with the Philanthropy Managers, discover and pursue grant opportunities related to childhood literacy
  • In coordination with the Marketing and Communications Manager, design and implement strategies for stewarding donors to increase donor retention
  • In coordination with the Support Team, monitor and share campaign data and reports with the SHF Leadership team and other stakeholders
  • Develop board reports related to the book campaign

Other Fundraising

  • In collaboration with the Fund’s Philanthropy Managers:
    • Assist in developing fundraising strategies for Community Impact Campaigns
    • Assist in discovering grant opportunities at the local level for Scripps’ stations engaged in Community Impact Campaigns
    • Assist stations with local sponsorships and partnerships related to Community Impact Campaigns
    • Assist in campaign evaluation for Community Impact Campaigns
  • Provide reporting and analysis of campaign results to SHF leadership and other stakeholders
  • In collaboration with stations and the Fund’s Marketing and Communications Manager, develop stewardship strategies for Community Impact Campaigns

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 3-5 years’ experience in nonprofit fundraising/development

  • Driven by philanthropic work and dedicated to maximizing community impact
  • Proven success leading fundraising campaigns for a wide variety of donors
  • Strong project management and communication skills to manage campaigns efficiently, accurately, and with a focus on meeting goals and increasing impact
  • Experience with fundraising/donor management software
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and work collaboratively at all levels of an organization
  • Energetic self-starter with the ability to manage multifaceted projects and a capacity to perform well in a dynamic, multi-tasking environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written), including strong presentation skills
  • Ability to identify and work through challenges, underscored by strong judgment and emotional intelligence
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Thrives in a collaborative environment
  • 10% travel required
