Junior Accountant
We are seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Jr. Accountant to join our team in a newly
created full-time role. The Junior Accountant will be responsible for managing day-to-day
financial transactions for our 176-year-old non-profit. The ideal candidate will have a strong
understanding of basic accounting principles, experience with accounting software,
excellent organizational skills, and be self-motivated.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Accounts Payable: Review and manage invoice approvals, reconcile vendor
statements, enter invoices into the accounting system and assist with some
payments.
• Vendor Management: Responsible for the tracking and collection of W-9’s for year end tax filings; Develop thorough understanding of key vendors and contracts and/or
terms. Collaborate with corporate stakeholders during the annual vendor audit.
• Asset Management: Oversee inventory tracking, record management, and accurate
entries within the accounting software. Manage relationships with the technology
vendor for new computer equipment and leased assets.
• Tax Compliance: Assist in the preparation of tax filings (sales tax, 1099 forms,
gaming reports, etc.) and ensure adherence to local, state, and federal tax
regulations.
• Audit Support: Provide documentation and reports to assist with internal and
external audits.
• Financial Record Maintenance: Organize and maintain both digital and physical
financial records, ensuring they are accessible and compliant with legal
requirements.
• HR Support: Partner with HR Manager to assist with new employee onboarding,
background checks, benefit renewals, payroll processing, and ensuring accurate
deduction and benefit application.
• Other duties: Provide support with budgeting, financial analysis, and other project based accounting tasks as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in bookkeeping or a similar accounting/finance
role.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel.
• Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to identify discrepancies.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize
multiple tasks.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with team members.
• Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
• Knowledge of payroll processing and tax regulations is a plus.
• Preferred: Experience in nonprofit accounting.
