Since 1976, Cincinnati’s oldest soup kitchen remains true to our mission of providing food with dignity for neighbors in need. The Walnut Hills kitchen, which was founded in 1984 is currently located in the basement of the Tom Geiger Guest House. We serve a hot meal six times each week and our food pantry is open two days per week.

The Queen City Kitchen is seeking an experienced and passionate Executive Director to advance the mission, lead the organization, and drive growth to serve those in our community. The Key responsibilities include reporting directly to Board of Directors, hiring and staff oversight, annual budgeting, bookkeeping and financial statement preparation, coordinating the volunteer program, marketing and public relations. This position is responsible for the implementation of policies and procedures set by the Board of Directors as well as meeting annual goals and financial objectives.
Education and Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree or have sufficient and equivalent background and professional experience.
- The individual must show good judgement, initiative, high integrity leadership and the ability to communicate well with all of QCK stakeholders.
- Highly skilled in the use of software programs such as Excel and donor software and experienced with the accounting software QuickBooks.
- History of hiring, development, and staff evaluation
Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial Responsibilities:
- Prepare annual budget for the board approval and operate within the approved budget.
- Responsible for all aspects of the financial management of the agency, including funding, bill paying, monetary donations, and payroll.
- Provide monthly written financial reports to the board which accurately reflect the financial conditions of the organization.
- Ensure maximum resource utilization and maintain the organization in a positive financial position.
- Oversee grant writing, donor solicitation and other fundraising efforts.
Organizational Mission and Program Services:
- Ensure that meals are effectively served as advertised to the community with respect, care, and hospitality.
- Ensure that the Choice Pantry serves guests according to the schedule and follows the donor’s requirements (Free Store Foodbank et al) and expectations.
- Ensure that sufficient food and supplies are purchased and donated to meet the mission.
- Create systems to provide ongoing inventory control of food and supplies.
- Review and evaluate the results of program activities to ensure best use of resources.
- Create systems to maintain monthly reports of number of meals served to guests and number of guests who received services from the pantry.
Board Governance:
- Responsible for support of all activities associated with the Board of Directors, including creating the agenda, preparing meeting materials, and setting up location.
- Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board and attending all board and committee meetings.
- Provide a monthly written report to the board with monthly service data and information necessary for the Board to make informed decisions.
- Complete an annual plan to achieve goals and objectives set by the Board.
- In conjunction with the Board of Trustees, take leadership in developing the agency strategic plan.
Staff Responsibilities:
- Hire and retain competent and qualified staff to perform the mission work of the organization.
- Provide feedback, training, and supervision to the staff to enhance their abilities to perform their job effectively and efficiently.
- Maintain personnel files on each employee and contract worker.
- Update personal policies as needed and communicate policies to staff.
- Annually provide each staff member with a written evaluation.
- Build a collaborative and effective staff team.
Volunteer and Donor Responsibilities:
- Ensure the recruitment, screening, and retention of community volunteers to help achieve the mission of QCK.
- Ensure that each volunteer signs a basic volunteer agreement and understands the mission and their job.
- Maintain a system that captures the number of volunteer hours provided by each volunteer and report this data quarterly to the board.
- Create opportunities to thank volunteers for their service.
- Ensure that letters are sent to all donors thanking them for donations.
- Ensure that there are sufficient “Weekend Warrior” volunteer groups to provide meals on the weekend.
- Community and Stakeholder Communication Responsibilities:
- Oversee the QCK website ensuring that it is up to date and a good communication tool for those seeking services and all other community stakeholders.
- Market QCK to the community by attending Walnut Hills Community association meetings and other community meetings to learn about community needs.
- Create a written annual report for the community that is sent to donors and available on the website.
- Maintain positive contact with all corporations, restaurants, churches, and individuals that donate food and supplies.
