The position requires a collaborative working relationship with all administrators, board members, staff, parents, and other constituents.

Job Description

The Director of Finance provides financial and strategic leadership. Responsibilities include operational, fiscal, and administrative effectiveness of the financial Administration, campus facilities, risk management, legal/vendor contracts, business policy and generally accepted accounting principles and procedures. As a member of the senior leadership team, the Director of Finance is committed to the educational philosophy, mission and goals of the school, and embraces the Mercy charism and the teachings of the Catholic church. The position requires a collaborative working relationship with all administrators, board members, staff, parents, and other constituents.

Accountability:  The Director of Finance reports to and is supervised by the President of Mercy McAuley High School.

Supervises:  Business office staff, IT staff, security staff and various contractors as assigned by the President.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Appraise the school’s financial position and produce informative and timely reports of its financial position, results of operations, liquidity, and growth to the president, the Finance Committee, the Board and Mercy Education. 
  • Create, maintain, and ensure compliance with procedures regarding:
    • Financial activity including but not limited to, purchasing, tuition, financial aid, internal controls and investing.
    •  
    • Monthly budget and actuals reporting to departments.
  • Create and manage the annual budget.
  • Oversee monthly reconciliation of bank/investment accounts.
  • Maintain fixed asset listing.
  • Serve as backup for payroll processes.
  • Facilitate proper use of government funds.
  • Provide oversight and review of the recording and reporting of financial transactions and activity.
  • Act as the liaison for the annual financial statement audit.
  • Ensure contracts with outside vendors are executed within the policies of Mercy McAuley High School.
  • Partner with the Plant & Grounds committee and president to ensure the physical facility and grounds are safe, clean, and maintained at a high standard. Act as liaison for facility contracted services.  
  • Ensure the school’s investment in its administrative and infrastructure support services are appropriate and consistent with the needs of the school.
  • Work collaboratively with the president, director of admissions, and director of marketing to ensure successful annual enrollment of students.
  • Foster an atmosphere of empowerment, collaboration and continuing professional development for direct reports.
  • Maintain and promote active communication and positive relations with constituencies both within and beyond the school community.
  • Other duties as assigned by the President and/or her designee.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience with Quickbooks Online or similar accounting platform.
  • Demonstrated strengths in interpersonal skills, collaboration, and initiative.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to effectively analyze, interpret and present relevant data for decision making.
  • Respect MMHS as a Catholic, Mercy school by maintaining a personal and professional presence consonant with the charism of the Sisters of Mercy and Catholic teaching.

Education and Experience:  Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business, or related field preferred and a minimum of five or more years managing financial operations in a school, university, foundation or other non-profit environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
