Job Summary

Reporting to the Museum’s Executive Director, the Director of Finance and Human Resources will play a role in the organization’s financial decision making. This position will maintain the museum’s financial security by establishing internal controls while recommending new and improved operational policies and procedures. The ideal candidate will have experience with accounting for non-profit organizations, the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines, demonstrate an ability to work across departments, and manage confidential information appropriately. Additionally, this position will support the Museum’s HR needs, specifically those related talent acquisition and compensation and benefit packages. The Director of Finance and Human Resources serves as a non-voting member of the Finance Committee and will prepare reporting and make presentations to the Committee as required.

Job Description

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Financial Management

  • Leads all general accounting functions, ensuring compliance with GAAP principles.
  • Monitors all revenues streams, investments, and assets to meet short-term and long-term financial obligations.
  • Oversight of timely and accurate processing of accounts payable and receivables, utilizing appropriate coding procedures to ensure accuracy during reporting.
  • Manages the annual operating and campaign budgets, working with department managers on forecasting while also assess the financial efficacy of program operations.
  • Ensure accurate financial reporting with timely monthly and year-end close with reconciliation and reporting of all monthly financial information.
  • Leads annual financial audit process, and coordinates and prepares all documentation and schedules as required by external auditor; coordinates the preparation of the Museum’s 990 tax returns and other forms as needed.

Human Resources

  • Further develops the Museum’s human resources efforts, maintaining employee personnel records, including those regarding insurance, benefits, and paid-time-off.
  • Ensure the timely preparation and processing of payroll, maintenance of payroll accounts, and payment of payroll taxes.
  • Management of insurance programs to guarantee appropriate coverage at most competitive rates.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

This position is a full-time position.  A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration with a focus on accounting, or related field is required with five years’ progressive experience in accounting and finance. Knowledge of non-profit accounting principles preferred.  Qualified candidates must be self-motivated, possess excellent communication skills, and demonstrate strong attention to detail. Candidate should also possess strong initiative, problem-solving skills, and sound judgment. Hours:                          Full-Time; Exempt Employee

Compensation:             $60,000-$65,000 based on experience

Workdays:                    Flexible schedule to meet needs of organization; evening and weekends may be required
