Extracurricular activities help students in a multitude of ways throughout their school years. Studies show that participation in extracurriculars improves academic performance, boosts social skills, increases time management skills, develops teamwork skills, opens doors to new interests and passions, and builds self-esteem.
This role supports all of ABC’s programs by ensuring that ABC has the necessary financial resources and community partners to achieve its mission. The Director of Advancement secures resources, builds capacity, raises the organization’s public profile, and provides leadership to a visionary and results-driven organization. The role requires a dynamic Director and collaborative leader who is committed to building on the organization’s strengths to help launch the next phase of growth. The Director of Advancement is a champion for fundraising as an essential part of the role.
SUMMARY
- Hours of work: 40 hours / week
- Location: ABC Offices in Cincinnati, Ohio, with opportunity for partial remote work
- Reports to: Executive Director, ABC
- Manages direct reports: Member & Donor Services Manager, Special Projects Manager, Marketing Coordinator, outsourced graphic designer and grant writer, and data consulting company
- Compensation: $70,000+ per year depending on experience; health, vision and dental benefits, matching retirement, generous PTO, and more
Primary Responsibilities:
Business Development (with Executive Director)
- Lead the prospecting, research, outreach, and initial conversations with new schools, districts, and public entities to expand ABC’s programming
- Create collateral and marketing materials to attract the attention of new schools, districts and public entities
- Create contracts, memorandums of understanding, implementation timelines, and collateral to support new clients as services launch, including necessary community learning sessions, data collections, and stewardship checkpoints.
Fundraising (with Advancement staff support)
- Individuals: Develop donor cultivation and solicitation strategies, including moves management development strategies; Cultivate current leads and identify potential new donors; Manage individual giving via a combination of an annual campaign and individual donations
- Foundations: Manage current and cultivate new foundation relationships and grants; oversee grant writer and grant process
- Corporate: Develop and manage a Corporate Sponsorship initiative, as well as all corporate fundraising relationships
- CRM: Oversee all fundraising donor data management in Neon One, ABC’s fundraising database
Marketing and Community Outreach (with Marketing Coordinator, graphic designer, and others)
- Manage, direct and oversee all aspects of organizational communications, media relations, and press inquiries to generate media coverage and advance the goals of individual projects
- Oversee internal and external messaging strategies
- Direct and oversee the editorial process and production of publications including the biennial report, marketing collateral, electronic communications, website content, regular blog / newsletter, and social media content
- Direct the work and services provided by outside vendors, full and part-time writers, photographers, graphic designers and student interns as relates to communications, public relations, design and branding
- Research, recommend, and prioritize visibility opportunities; coordinate with the appropriate ABC staff and leadership to prepare talking points, speeches, scripts, presentations, and other support material as needed
- Participate in staff meetings and regularly communicate with staff members to learn about ABC’s program activities, opportunities, and successes
Fiscal Agency Program (with Manager of Donor and Member Services)
- Oversee the direction, strategy, and growth of ABC’s fiscal agency program
- Find ways to increase the volume of members and the profitability of the program, without sacrificing the mission-based values
- Lead the additional services offerings project in conjunction with the Manager of Member and Donor Services, which may include supporting grant writing, marketing, and other similar functions for member organizations
Data and Impact Management (with Manager of Special Projects)
- Oversee the management of a data management system that evaluates the efficacy and strategic alignment of our program planning, participant recruitment, program activation, and reporting
- Work closely with partners to obtain data and translate that data into easily understood and useful information
- Support evaluation, organization, and presentation of program and participant data and develop reports for internal and external communications
- Coordinate with outside vendors who support ABC’s data plan and execution
- Translate data into functional infographics and narratives to share data effectively externally
Organizational Support
- Interface as appropriate with donors, foundations, nonprofit partners, and the public representing the work and mission of ABC
- Build strong relationships with and activate the members of the Board of Directors to engage them in cultivating and stewarding beneficial relationships.
- Manage and support staff in the Advancement department (two managers and one coordinator).
- Attend board meetings and assist the Executive Director with reporting out to the Board of Directors.
- Assist in the development of strategic plans
- Participate on the Leadership Team to ensure a culture of support, accountability, clear communication, and strategic use of resources as everyone within the organization works together to fulfill the strategic plan
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Proven experience (6+ years) in nonprofit fundraising and outreach
- Excellent writing and storytelling skills
- Significant understanding of Microsoft Office applications
- Excellent complex problem solving skills and analytical skills
- Exceptional organizational and project management skills with strong attention to detail
- Ability to communicate effectively, clearly, and concisely both orally and in writing
- Solid track record of building rapport and maintaining professional relationships with vendors and colleagues
- Sound judgment and discretion in handling and securing confidential information, as well as the ability to conduct oneself in a highly professional manner
- Results driven, intellectually curious, action-oriented leadership style that thrives in a mission-focused environment
