Development Manager, Sweet Cheeks Diaper Bank
The Development Manager will work with the CEO to strengthen the financial sustainability of COVERD and its programs by helping our existing and prospective donors accomplish their philanthropic goals and ambitions through a relationship with our organization. Responsibilities will be both strategic and tactical, including the cultivation of new donors through development and execution of an overall development plan, donor strategies, managing prospective donor pipeline, foundation research, donor database management, gift stewardship, and maintaining accurate and up-to-date information on donors, foundation funding opportunities, and prospects.
Development Manager
Full-Time: 40 hours a week
Reports to: Megan Fischer, CEO
Salary: $64,000/annually (Exempt position)
Location: Cincinnati, OH (1400 State Ave. 45204)
Start Day: Flexible; by 2/6/2024 or sooner preferred
Education Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree or higher and minimum 3 years of nonprofit fundraising experience required
About: COVERD Greater Cincinnati operates 3 programs: Sweet Cheeks Diaper Bank, Tidal Babe Period Bank, and Fly & Dry Basic Needs Bank. All programs work with local social service agencies to provide free basic hygiene items to low-income families while raising awareness of the basic health need for them. Through 50 partner social service agencies, the programs provide free diapers and period supplies to low-income families while raising awareness of the basic health need for these items. Our mission is to promote dignity and health for people in need by increasing awareness of the need for, and access to, essential hygiene products.
Role Description: The Development Manager will work with the CEO to strengthen the financial sustainability of COVERD and its programs by helping our existing and prospective donors accomplish their philanthropic goals and ambitions through a relationship with our organization. Responsibilities will be both strategic and tactical, including the cultivation of new donors through development and execution of an overall development plan, donor strategies, managing prospective donor pipeline, foundation research, donor database management, gift stewardship, and maintaining accurate and up-to-date information on donors, foundation funding opportunities, and prospects. The Development Manager’s role requires tact, diplomacy, and interaction with all staff and the Board. Strong communications skills, written and verbal, are a must. Proven success in the nonprofit fundraising sphere is required. This role will be a key player in the success and continued rapid growth of COVERD Greater Cincinnati. CFRE preferred.
Essential Duties
Individual Donor & Major Gifts Development (35%)
- Help develop a system of policies, procedures, and practices that direct the actions of COVERD towards bringing in donors, forging relationships, and generating major gifts.
- Implement and maintain robust documentation of the relationship between donors and COVERD.
- Communicate with donors regularly through targeted updates about their gifts at work.
- Design and implement annual appeal.
- Use data to analyze how best to engage existing and new donors.
Corporate & Foundation Relations (25%)
- Identify, qualify, and prioritize potential corporate funders.
- Facilitate the development of relationships with funders through regular communications and arranging and prepping for meetings and presentations.
- Track the implementation of sponsor benefits according to level selected.
- Assist grant writer as needed, which could include data gathering, writing content, meetings and other tasks.
Administration & Infrastructure (25%)
- Create annual fundraising calendar of activities.
- Maintain donor and foundation records and ensure accuracy and efficacy of donor database.
- Create various monthly and annual fundraising reports.
- Serve as staff liaison to the board for Development updates, working with the Board Development Liaison.
- Sorting and handling of donor receipts.
- Management of donor acknowledgement, including thank you notes and phone calls.
- Rigorously evaluate all efforts and progress toward fundraising goals.
Marketing & Communications (10%)
- Send out monthly communications via emailed Newsletter.
- Write creative copy for promotional items in tandem with other staff members, including content for annual reports, planned giving, cases for support, our website, social media, and appeals.
Training (5%)
- Research potential training opportunities and attend several per year to improve and enhance development skills.
Skills needed:
- 3+ years of proven success and the ability to raise funds with demonstrated growth year over year in the nonprofit fundraising sphere is required
- Bachelor's Degree or higher required; CFRE preferred
- Understand long-term development planning, prospect management, and strategic engagement principles
- Must be comfortable with making donation asks personally, by phone call, via email, and in-person
- May need to travel within the Greater Cincinnati area for donor meetings and events; some evenings and weekends will be required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and customer service skills
- Extreme attention to detail
- Proven ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects and priorities in deadline-intensive situations
- Demonstrated ability for public speaking and delivering a compelling message (about our organization, mission, goals, etc.)
- Strong analytic skills and a strategic thinker who is open to different perspectives and new ways of doing things
- Comfort working in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to gather and synthesize information, draw insights, and summarize issues
- Proven ability to delegate and manage workloads and projects across functions
- Willingness to learn new systems and processes
- Experience with Network for Good a plus
- Experience creating content in Canva preferred
- Willingness to operate a pallet jack
- Should be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 40 pounds and stand or walk for extended periods of time
- The ability to handle conflict, confrontation, and uncomfortable situations head-on and with grace
- Able to flourish in a creative team environment as well as operate independently

Schedule and Flexibility: In general, our work week is extremely flexible with the option to have a balance of working from the office and working remotely.
