Development Director, MCA
The Mill Creek Alliance (MCA) Development Director plans, implements, and directs MCA’s philanthropic initiatives to support mission achievement. Reporting to the Executive Director (ED), and with the guidance of the Board’s Development Committee, the DD collaborates with staff and volunteers to produce resources that sustain and advance the organization and its work.

Reporting to the Executive Director (ED), and with the guidance of the Board’s Development Committee, the DD collaborates with staff and volunteers to produce resources that sustain and advance the organization and its work.
The balance among development activities may vary at times. Balance and specifics will be determined and may be adjusted by the Development Director and the Executive Director.
The Development Director:
- Leads MCA’s Development function
- Participates in and contributes to strategic planning
- Establishes work processes, policies, goals, and infrastructure to support successful fundraising and records management
- Selects the mix of fundraising tactics (personal appeals, events, grantseeking, etc.) to meet MCA’s needs and targets
- Secures and stewards annual and planned gifts, special and capital campaigns, and events
- Reports appropriate metrics and analytics at least quarterly for understanding and evaluating MCA’s Development functions
- Provides staff support to the Board’s Development Committee, which formalizes and reviews the strategic direction for the organization’s development activities
- Develops an annual work plan that supports the organization’s annual goals and budgets, and long-range work plans that expand MCA’s horizons and achievements
- Researches and evaluates funding opportunities, writes proposals, and supports other writers
- Is not limited to conventional fundraising, but instead looks broadly for new ways for MCA to generate revenue, with consideration for the resources required and the amount of funding that is unrestricted
- Sets the tone, teaches, coaches, and leads by example regarding appropriate behavior and relationships with donors and volunteers. This may include:
- Asking donors for money assertively, gracefully, and respectfully
- Guiding other staff and board about donor prospecting, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
- Thanking donors, and ensuring that they are informed about the good that came from their donations
- Assisting donor relationship building by the ED, staff, and board
- Develops expertise about funding for MCA activities on the Mill Creek, for example, stream restoration, walk-cycle trials, pocket parks, stream access, water trails, etc.
- Leads collaboration among builders and funders whose projects compliment ours
- Participates in all-hands-on-deck efforts sometimes required in small organizations
- Adheres to professional fundraising ethical standards
Ideal Qualifications:
Professional:
CFRE or equivalent
- Seven or more years of diversified and progressive nonprofit fundraising experience
- Supervisory experience (preferred)
- Excellent oral and written communications skills
- Familiarity with measuring and evaluating fundraising performance
- Relevant technical and software skills: Donor management and customer relationship management software, Microsoft Office, electronic meetings, social media

VIII.COMPENSATION AND HOURS
Salary starting at $55,000/year, which may be adjusted based on qualifications and experience. This is a full-time (40 hours per week) grant-funded exempt position. Office hours are flexible between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Occasional evening and weekend hours are required.
