Development Director, MCA

The Mill Creek Alliance (MCA) Development Director (DD) plans and implements MCA’s fundraising initiatives to support mission achievement. Reporting to the Executive Director (ED), and with the guidance of the Board’s Development Committee, the DD collaborates with staff and volunteers to produce resources that sustain and advance the organization and its work.
The balance among development activities may vary at times. Balance and specifics will be determined and may be adjusted by the Development Director and the Executive Director.
SUMMARY: The Mill Creek Alliance (MCA) Development Director (DD) plans and implements MCA’s fundraising initiatives to support mission achievement. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develops knowledge about MCA activities and programs in order to establish and meet funding needs.
- Supports and executes MCA’s Development goals as established by the Executive Director.
- Develops an annual work plan that supports the organization’s annual goals, budgets, and long-range opportunities to expand MCA’s horizons and achievements.
- Works with the Executive Director to select the mix of fundraising tactics (personal appeals, events, grant seeking, etc.) to meet MCA’s needs and targets.
- Coordinates and implements annual fundraising strategies.
- Secures and stewards annual and planned gifts, as well as special and capital campaigns.
- Looks broadly for new ways to generate revenue (not limited to conventional fundraising).
- Considers available resources and helps to achieve a balance between fundraising tactics.
- Assist in fundraising events and communications with donors (newsletter and email asks) in collaboration with other staff.
- Adheres to professional fundraising ethical standards.
- Develops and shares organizational best practices for donor engagement and relationship building. This may include guiding other staff in asking for money, thanking donors, and more.
- Works as a part of the Grant Writing Team:
- Researches and evaluates funding opportunities relevant to program goals.
- Writes proposals as requested and supports other grant writers.
- Provides staff support to the Board’s Development Committee (DC) with their goals for raising unrestricted funds from corporate, business, government and other donors.
- Sends ask letters, tracks invoices, and sends reminders.
- Develops and maintains tracking mechanisms to share with DC at monthly meetings.
- Maintains donor database (currently DonorPerfect) and donation records. Enters donors & gifts, pulls reports as needed, and assures accurate mailing lists.
- Assures that all donors receive appropriate acknowledgement.
- Reports appropriate metrics and analytics at least quarterly for understanding and evaluating MCA’s Development functions.
- Establishes work processes, policies, goals, and infrastructure to support successful fundraising and records management.
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Work Experience
- CFRE or equivalent.
- Seven or more years of diversified and progressive nonprofit fundraising experience.
- Supervisory experience (preferred).
- Excellent oral and written communications skills.
- Familiarity with measuring and evaluating fundraising performance.
- Relevant technical and software skills: Donor management and customer relationship management software, Microsoft Office, electronic meetings, social media.

ADDITIONAL ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Engage with communities as well as local, state, and federal stakeholders to foster partnerships in support of Mill Creek Alliance’s mission, vision, and values.
- Perform other related duties assigned by the Executive Director.
- Participates in and contributes to strategic planning.
- Work with staff and Board committee members to support, plan, and organize outreach events.
- Track programs and participation utilizing shared organizational calendars, documents, and resources.
COMPENSATION AND HOURS:
MCA employees are hired at-will. This is a full-time (40 hours per week) exempt position. Salary starting at $60,000/year, which may be adjusted based on qualifications and experience. Office hours are flexible between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Occasional evening and weekend hours are required. We offer a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package including: 20 days PTO and 11 paid federal holidays per year; tuition reimbursement; health insurance (medical, dental, vision), flexible spending account, and a SIMPLE IRA program with 3% employer match. Employees are paid twice a month.
SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIPS:
This employee may be required to supervise interns or AmeriCorps members.
This employee is supervised by the Executive Director.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The duties of this job are performed both inside a climate-controlled office setting and outside, and at times in inclement weather. The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 50 pounds. Use of technology in the workplace can be expected daily (laptops, desktop, MS Office, Google Office Suite, office printers/scanners.)
