Chief Philanthropy and External Affairs Officer
The Chief Philanthropy and External Relations Officer develops, manages, and executes effective strategies to raise funds for CHNK Behavioral Health. The position will also develop, manage, and execute effective marketing strategies that increase the organization’s reach.
The position is structured with four direct reports to assist with fundraising initatives - Donor Database and Stewardship Specialist, Manager of Annual Giving and Events, Director of Marketing and Communications, and Administrative Assitant.
The position reports to the CFO who is an active participant in fundrasing and has been the lead development executive for the agency for the past 12 years.

Position Summary
The Chief Philanthropy and External Relations Officer develops, manages, and executes effective strategies to raise funds for CHNK Behavioral Health. The position will also develop, manage, and execute effective marketing strategies that increase the organization’s reach. The position reports to the Chief Executive Officer and is a member of the senior leadership team. The position will regularly present to the Board of Trustees, manage the Philanthropy Committee of the Board, and oversee the Community Board.
Minimum Qualifications:
- An undergraduate degree from an accredited educational institution (Marketings, Sales, Communication preferred) is preferred but equivalent knowledge and experience is accepted.
- Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) designation, or active pursuit of CFRE, preferred.
- At least 5 to 7 years of successful advancement and marketing experience with a proven ability to plan and execute.
- Exhibits fundraising proficiency; ability to solicit and close sponsorships and philanthropic gifts.
- Relationship driven. Identifies, develops, and fosters meaningful relationships with individuals and corporations from all walks of life and in various environments.
- Community development professional. Ability to network in the community and identify individual and corporate major gift prospects.
- Persuasive presenter. Tells compelling stories that appeal to stakeholders on an emotional level and illustrates how a difference can be made.
- Superb written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent time management skills. Creative, self-starter attitude. Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
- Fiscal management and budget development skills. Able to grasp basic accounting skills to achieve and surpass budget expectations.

- Experience with donor database management (Raiser’s Edge preferred).

Responsibilities:
- Oversee donor relations including the identification, prospecting, solicitation and cultivation of donors and corporate sponsors for annual support as well as for a $38 MM capital campaign.
- Manage the planned giving program, the grants program, and major gifts in partnership with the CEO.
- Manage the planning and execution of the annual fund-raising breakfast.
- Ensure current, accurate database management (Raiser’s Edge).
- Create and present necessary advancement reports (monthly, quarterly, mid-year and final) for the CEO and Board.
- Supervise philanthropy and communications staff members as well as any contract staff.
- Develop and execute annual marketing/PR strategy, plan, and budget necessary to achieve organization objectives to the CEO.
- Oversee the organization’s social media, website, newsletters, and direct mailings.
- Manage vendor relationships to create the necessary marketing and PR collateral to advance the organization.
- Effectively represent the organization in a multitude of external settings.
- Stay up to date with the latest technology and marketing best practices and implement as opportunities are warranted.
