The Boys Academy Success Coordinator is responsible for the overall operation of the BHGH Cincinnati Boys Academy Program, including school year and summer programs.

Job Summary:

The  Boys Academy Success Coordinator oversees the day to day operations of the BHGH Boys Academy Program, including curriculum management, monitoring of BHGH scholars, and administrative tasks as required while overseeing volunteers and academy scholars within the program. The Boys Academy Success Coordinator is a role model for scholars, families and volunteers within the academy program. This individual will model for scholars appropriate and positive relationships with community partners, schools, donors, board members, neighbors, authorities, peers, and guardian(s) of scholars. The success of these scholars builds a foundation on the willingness of staff to make a long-term commitment to them and the program.

Education and Experience and Certifications- Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in social work, education, or related field
  • Experience working with youth in teaching, education, tutoring, academics, higher education, youth programs, or related field. Classroom experience preferred.
  • Experience with online E-learning platforms is beneficial (e.g., Google Classrooms)
  • Knowledge of education theory and best practices: Ability to interpret testing and evaluations
  • Ability to pass background checks in compliance with state licensing requirements
  • Driver’s license with current insurance
  • Minimum age of 21

Job Requirements- Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):

  • Ability to work flexible hours with most of the hours taking place in the evenings during the school year and one Saturday per month required. Occasionally weekends and late evenings maybe required.
  • Must be able to produce quality, error-free work and take initiative to complete projects as needed or assigned
  • Willingness to pitch-in and fill the needs of all programs

Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Building relationships with scholar families and ensure regular communication that allows them to engage in the program and fulfill their role to support their scholars
  • Regular contact with Program Director, Residential Success Coordinator, College/Alumni Coordinator and partner school educators
  • Monitor and support academic progress and need of Academy scholars.
  • Facilitate, implement, and evaluate learning exercises, workshops, individual tutoring and academic assistance to scholars to incite problem solving, critical thinking, cultural dialogue, and opportunities for social inclusion, engagement, and integration.
  • Effective collaboration with colleagues to develop and implement intellectually enriching curriculum activities.
  • Coordinate with Collegiate/Alumni Success Coordinator on execution of college preparation activities.
  • Maintain an academically focused environment while overseeing scholar activity.
  • As with life, priorities and duties can shift or be added to be as effective as possible for our scholars. This may include flexibility in regard to the program model and needs of Boys Hope Girls Hope scholars.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor program plans and services, including individual scholar success plans, to meet strategic goals that include academic progress, personal development, life skills, and college preparation.
  • Maintain program records and provide periodic reports to the Executive Director and Program Director with all information necessary to carry out their supervision, governance, and planning responsibilities.
  • Maintain and update complete scholar files and academic improvement plans and goals for BHGH Academy scholars.
  • Ensure daily records and required reports are completed accurately and in a timely manner for BHGH Academy.
  • Ensure up to date maintenance logs are kept for BHGH Academy property.
  • Training of college interns and other volunteers, AmeriCorps, and staff assigned to Academy site.
  • Identify and secure resources needed for the afternoon enrichment programs.
  • Assist in outreach activities to promote and secure resources for BHGH.
  • Assist with the collection and inputting of all data relevant to the Academy Program into PPM.
  • Provide monthly reports as requested as well as updates via program team newsletter

  • Create a family-like atmosphere while meeting the academic, physical, emotional, social, spiritual development needs of scholars in the program and Boys Hope Girls Hope program policies.
  • In collaboration with Program Director and Program Success Team, recruiting scholars and families that meet the scholar profile and walking through the application processes of screening, selection, and orientation
  • Assume responsibility for scholar care including daily decisions regarding health, safety, and discipline
  • Demonstrate curiosity and a life-long passion for learning that motivates scholars to pursue their education
  • Attend school meetings and progress sessions monthly
  • Prepare and serve meals (in conjunction with other staff and volunteers) as part of the programmatic goal of providing scholars with one healthy meal and snack per each day of programming

Communication:

Ability to effectively present information and respond clearly to inquiries from other staff members as well as scholars. Ability to draft reports and correspondence consistent with the duties of this job. Ability to interface effectively with scholars, staff, volunteers, stakeholders, donors, and community members.

Mathematical:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measurement, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.

Reasoning:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Computer:

Ability to learn and utilize Windows based computers and a variety of other devices. Ability to learn and utilize various software programs or applications.

Other:

Ability to accurately perform assigned tasks satisfactorily. Ability to perform duties in full compliance with requirements of the organization. Ability to promote harmonious working relationships with staff and scholars. Possess excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal relationship skills.

Work Environment:

This is a professional position that requires some travel within the area. Occasional travel within the US may also be required to attend meetings and training. This position requires the ability to closely monitor the whereabouts and activities of pre-adolescent and adolescent children in a multi-story home, as well as the ability to safely transport children in program vehicles, in accordance to BHGH and local licensing standards. Some evening and weekend hours are required.

Physical Requirements:

While performing this job, the individual is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, reach with hands/arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, push, pull, grasp, and use repetitive motions. Individuals may also frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds of materials. Specific vision abilities include close vision such as reading handwritten or typed material, or computer/device screens, and distance vision such as reading a projector screen, and the ability to adjust focus.
