About Housing Opportunities of Northern Kentucky (HONK): HONK is a faith-based, non-profit organization with over 30 years of success in guiding families and individuals on the path to homeownership. Our opportunities are created by rehabbing homes and building homes using volunteer labor and donations to keep our homes affordable. Many of the households we serve are not only first-time homeowners, but the first generation in their family to own a home.
We help prepare each household for homeownership using a supportive lease-to-own program. Our clients live in their HONK home, typically for 12-18 months, before buying it. During this time, we work with them to improve credit, reduce debt, develop savings, and otherwise prepare for the physical and financial realities of becoming a homeowner. This preparation has brought tremendous long-term success to our homeowners over the years. With broad support from our NKY communities, HONK has now helped 111 NKY households to achieve homeownership.
