Job Description

The Division of University Advancement at Miami University is looking for new team members who want to make an impact on the lives and experiences of our students through philanthropy. Miami University is a public university founded in 1809 with over 200,000 alumni and 20,000 enrolled students. The Associate Director of Development for the College of Engineering and Computing will help advance the mission of Miami University by planning, organizing, and implementing strategies to increase the level of personal involvement and financial commitment of individual and corporate donors and prospects of Miami University through its major gift program.

The College of Engineering and Computing (CEC) is one of the newest but most rapidly expanding College on campus.  The college will welcome over 700 students to campus in the fall – our largest class ever and with over 500 undergraduates the largest undergraduate class in the last five years. We selective programs with over 50 year histories but most of our majors less than 25 years old, the College currently has over 12,000 living alumni.

Duties:           

  • Serve as a vital member of the CEC development team and work closely with the Senior Director of Development to meet the fundraising priorities and strategic initiatives of the College
  • Work closely with the Senior Director of Development in the development of the team’s fundraising efforts and strategies
  • Engage with senior leadership of the College and University
  • Liaison with and represent CEC as part of the campus-wide Corporate and Foundation Relations team
  • Serve as a liaison between the University Advancement office and the College
  • Effect solicitation and stewardship calls to alumni, corporations, foundations and friends alone and with other staff, faculty, administrators and alumni volunteers
  • Develop and maintain a prospect pool focused primarily on $100,000 plus prospects.  Special focus on alumni and corporate partners
  • Prepare and present gift proposals to prospects with the input and assistance of faculty, administrators, and deans, as well as other constituent and central development officers. Proposals may involve establishing multi-year commitments, as well as helping to facilitate gifts of real estate, personal property, securities, and gifts in wills, trusts, annuities and insurance
  • Encourage and coordinate the involvement of alumni and friends through campus visits and regional events
  • Develop and implement assessment, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for assigned prospects with the Office of Development staff, and university faculty and administrators
  • Perform other duties related to the mission of the Office of Development under the guidance of the Senior Associate Vice President for University Advancement
  • Willingness to travel extensively both on a regional and national level

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of three years of experience in fundraising, sales, business development, and/or comparable work experience.  Internships, volunteer work, and other experience gained during the completion of degree programs may be counted towards these requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct fundraising experience – including both individual and corporate experience
  • Experience working in an educational setting

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills
  • Commitment to collaborative approach to fundraising
  • Excellent organizations skills and attention to detail
  • Willingness to travel extensively both on a regional and national level
