Assistant Vice President of Development, Intercollegiate Athletics, MU
The Assistant Vice President of Development, Associate Athletic Director will work strategically with key external stakeholders to oversee all aspects of Intercollegiate Athletics (ICA) fundraising efforts and other revenue production areas. This person will also work with other University leaders to develop and implement strategies that impact ICA broadly as well as to help advance the mission of Miami University by planning, organizing and implementing strategies to increase the level of financial support of donors and prospects to ICA.

About the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics: The RedHawks compete in the NCAA Division I Mid-American Conference, the National Collegiate Hockey Conference, and the U.S. Figure Skating Association. In competition, Miami Athletics boasts over 850 individual championships, 200 team conference championships, and 100 postseason appearances while maintaining an 84% graduation rate and 3.14 GPA in the classroom over the past decade. Miami University Athletics a three-time recipient of the prestigious Mid-American Conference Dr. Carol A. Cartwright Award for excellence in academics, athletics and citizenship. Miami is the only school to seize the Cartwright Award in three consecutive years. Annually the Mid-American Conference recognized the top men’s and women’s athletic programs by awarding the Reese Trophy and the Jacoby Trophy. Duties/Physical Demands:
- Create and execute fundraising plans that utilize best practices in major giving including identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major prospects and donors (alumni, corporate partners, and friends of Miami University) for gifts of $50 thousand and above.
- Manage and develop strategies for all prospects of Intercollegiate Athletics.
- Manage and direct a team of three (3) development staff assigned to work for ICA.
- Work with University and other UA staff to coordinate and plan numerous alumni events and speakers as well as provide direct support for several advisory boards including but not limited to the AD’s Circle, the ICA Campaign Committee, as well as other sport specific alumni groups.
- Prepare and present gift proposals to prospects with the input and assistance of coaches, administrators, other appropriate internal key stakeholders, as well as other constituent and central development officers. Proposals may involve establishing multi-year commitments, as well as helping to facilitate gifts of real estate, personal property, securities, and gifts in wills, trusts, annuities and insurance.
- Direct all aspects of a comprehensive development program for ICA in response to all campaign goals and initiatives. Oversee the development of messaging, metrics, goals, and progress for ICA development and campaign program.
- Serve as an exemplary University and ICA advocate in the community, with local leaders, alumni organizations, corporate partners, and other leaders and key constituents.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree; minimum of eight years’ experience in fundraising, business development and/or relationship management roles; demonstrated level of leadership.
Desired Qualifications:
- Advanced degree; fundraising experience in an educational environment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Outstanding oral and written communications; excellent organization skills and attention to detail; and willingness to travel extensively both on a regional and national level.
