Job Summary:
An Access Technology Specialist works within the Access Technology Service (ATS) to provide comprehensive training for people with visual impairments to use hardware or software as they pursue independence through the use of computers and other modern technology.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Provide evaluation, instruction, and consultation to people with visual impairments in skill areas focusing on effective use of access technology with computer applications to achieve vocational, educational, or personal goals.
- Work with diverse populations and multiple community referral partners.
- Independently manage assigned caseload of students
- · Accurately identify consumer needs and goals.
- · Project instructional hours and equipment needed.
- · Tailor teaching strategies to consumers’ learning needs.
- · Produce clear and concise written reports.
- · Maintain calendar of client appointments and track client progress toward goals.
- · Establish client contact within one week of assignment.
- · Schedule service times and locations to optimize efficiency.
- · Ensure improved skills are utilized by consumers.
- · Maintain at least 95% client satisfaction rate based on consumer feedback.
Maintain current and accurate knowledge of mainstream and adaptive technology trends; provide consultation to the community and referral partners as needed.
- Develop new skills that reflect trends in technology.
- Assure required certifications and accreditations are current.
- Analyze and enhance curriculum to be used by consumers and ATS staff.
- Develop and pursue training opportunities.
- Maintain current and accurate knowledge of professional resources.
- Provide effective consultations to consumers and ATS staff when required.
- Provide collaboration with other professionals as appropriate.
- Initiate consultation within two weeks of request.
- Review existing documentation to assist in service provision.
Maintain accurate documentation on programs and consumer service.
- Accurately describe consumer progress and skill level.
- Provide clear and descriptive explanation of teaching content.
- Log daily training outcomes
- Prepare monthly and quarterly billing within established timeframes.
- Submit evaluation and final reports within one week after service is concluded.
- Submit monthly agency documentation requirements as required.
- Assist in documenting equipment hardware and software inventory.
- Obtain accurate vendor information for ATS and its consumers.
Handle special projects and assignments to help meet program or agency needs.
- Maintain ATS instructional spaces and demonstration equipment.
- Actively participate in program planning and identification of unmet needs.
- Fully create and prepare for professional presentations as they are assigned.
- Collaborate with other staff as needed.
- Apply and openly share professional knowledge as requested.
- Assist in implementation of unit and department annual plan.
- Provide technical support to the agency as requested.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in education, communications, or social sciences.
- 2-3 years of training experience, technology instruction preferred.
- ACVREP CATIS certification preferred or ability to become certified within 3 years.
- Expertise working with technology such as JAWS, ZoomText, optical character recognition, video magnification, or electronic braille.
- Experience working in a not-for-profit environment.
- Experience working with people living with disabilities preferred.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of Windows, MS Office, Internet technology, Apple, Android.
- Excellent project management and work process skills.
- Professional oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to travel for daily appointments within 13 county service territory of Southwest Ohio, Northern Kentucky, and Southeast Indiana.
