Academic Coach
To support Cincinnati Public Schools (CPS) students that are experiencing homelessness, the Academic
Coach will initiate, facilitate, and maintain programs and strategies that will ensure the academic success
of students attending 2 CPS high schools, where there are traditionally disproportionately high numbers
of homeless and unaccompanied youth. The Academic Coach will work proactively with educators and
students to promote school attendance and academic planning connected to long-term pathway goals;
monitor academic progress and success; monitor attendance (virtually and in a blended learning
environment), monitor discipline referrals, advise students on 3E pathway goals, and provide highly
responsive support of individual student needs and barriers to success inside and outside of the classroom.

WHY IS THIS ROLE IMPORTANT?

SUMMARY
● Hours of work: 40 hours / week
● Location: Will work between Western Hills High School and Taft High School
● Reports to: ABC Deputy Director, with CPS Project Connect Manager’s advice and consent
● Compensation: $35,000-$45,000 per year depending on experience; health, vision, and dental
benefits, matching retirement, generous PTO, and more
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
This position requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills. A demonstrated ability in youth
development activities and building healthy relationships is desired. A Bachelor’s Degree and related
training is preferred. Understanding and knowledge of public schools is helpful. Good organization,
planning, verbal and written communication skills are necessary. Prefer a Bachelor’s degree in human
sciences, social work, psychology, communications, education, public administration or a similar field
and experience working with students considered to be at academic risk.
Principle Activities:
● Provide proactive outreach and academic coaching for homeless and unaccompanied youth to
help them address their individual learning needs in order to increase achievement and
persistence.
● Work with homeless and unaccompanied youth, in collaboration with school staff, to promote
the planning of intentional academic pathways.
● Provide proactive outreach to identify eligible students.
● Monitor individual student progress and work collaboratively with faculty and staff to remove
academic barriers.
● Coordinate and offer programs tied to social/emotional and academic success.
● Collaborate with staff to develop and offer resources that intentionally connect academic work
and skill development to the exploration of 3E pathways.
● Collaborate with community partners to streamline referrals to meet the basic needs of
identified students.
